Herói do nosso tempo - aquele que triunfa sobre o seu egoísmo - Héroe de nuestro tiempo - el que triunfa sobre su egoísmo - Heroes of our time - those who conquer their selfishness

"São as condições que eles próprios criaram que vão obrigar os humanos a desenvolver sentimentos mais fraternos. Por enquanto, eles ainda não compreenderam; os que podem beneficiar dos meios que as ciências e as técnicas puseram à sua disposição estão tão maravilhados com eles que não se questionam sobre se aquilo que consideram útil e benéfico para si próprios é também útil e benéfico para os outros: eles usam e abusam desses meios, sempre a ver quem será o primeiro nisto e naquilo, e tornam-se cruéis, desumanos. E são esses os heróis que multidões querem imitar, sem se aperceberem de que tais modelos são monstros.

Pois bem, agora são necessários outros heróis, heróis para o nosso tempo. O verdadeiro heroísmo está em triunfar sobre o seu egoísmo, que conduz sempre ao confronto. Se todos esses homens ricos, poderosos, influentes, empregassem na busca de um pouco mais de fraternidade as mesmas energias que usam para ser bem-sucedidos no plano material, a abundância e a paz reinariam em toda a terra."

Por el momento, todavía no han comprendido bien: maravillados por los medios que las ciencias y las técnicas han puesto a su disposición, aquellos que pueden aprovecharse de ellos, no se preguntan si lo que creen útil y benéfico para ellos lo es igualmente para los demás: usan y abusan, siempre buscan ser el primero aquí o allí, y se vuelven crueles, inhumanos. Pero estos son los héroes que la gente quiere imitar, sin darse demasiada cuenta que esos modelos son monstruos.

Pues bien, ahora son necesarios otros héroes, héroes para nuestro tiempo. El verdadero heroísmo, es conseguir triunfar sobre su egoísmo, ese egoísmo que conduce siempre al enfrentamiento. Si todos esos hombres ricos, poderosos, influyentes, emplearan las mismas energías que dedican para triunfar en el plano material, en la búsqueda de un poco más de fraternidad, la abundancia y la paz reinarían en toda la tierra."

"People will be made to develop more brotherly feelings by conditions they themselves have created. As yet, they still do not understand; those who can benefit from the means that science and technology have put at their disposal consider these so wonderful that they do not ask themselves whether what they see as useful and of benefit to them is equally so for others. They use and abuse these means; in every area, it is always a matter of who will be first, and they become cruel and inhuman. But those are the heroes the crowd wants to emulate, not fully realizing that their models are monsters.

So, now we need other heroes, heroes for our time. True heroism involves being able to conquer the selfishness in us that always leads to confrontation. If all those rich, powerful, influential people used the same energy they devote to being successful on the material plane to seeking a little more brotherhood, then abundance and peace would reign throughout the world."
