Mas, mesmo na vida quotidiana, ele não é o melhor guia, não só porque tem uma percepção apenas parcial da realidade, mas também, e sobretudo, porque no fundo de tudo o que ele decide empreender existe um propósito escondido, um interesse, um calculismo egoísta, que acabará sempre por provocar perturbações. Um homem que se deixa guiar pelo seu intelecto, assim que faz um sacrifício, que tem um gesto generoso, arrepende-se, acha que foi muito parvo ao escutar os conselhos do seu coração e da sua alma.
O intelecto não consegue conceber como a fraternidade se realizará entre todos os homens, como se formará na terra uma só família, como o mundo inteiro viverá em paz e harmonia. Ele não consegue elevar-se suficientemente alto para descobrir os verdadeiros remédios, as verdadeiras soluções. O que ele imagina, o que ele propõe a partir da sua visão incompleta e egocêntrica das coisas, é sempre defeituoso e não resolverá nada de forma definitiva. Existem soluções para todos os problemas que se colocam aos humanos, mas para as encontrar é necessário apelar para o coração, a alma e o espírito."

But even in daily life it is not the best guide, for not only does it have a limited perception of reality, but also, most importantly, behind everything it decides to undertake there is a hidden motive, a selfish, calculated interest that will always end up causing disturbances. Those who are led by their mind regret making a sacrifice or a generous gesture the moment they have made it; they think they were foolish to listen to the advice of their heart or their soul.
Nor is the mind able to imagine how brotherhood between all people can be achieved, how the earth can become one family and the whole world live in peace and harmony. It is not able to gain enough height to discover the true remedies, the true solutions. What it thinks up, what it puts forward from its incomplete and egocentric viewpoint is always flawed and will solve nothing in the long run. Solutions exist for all problems facing humankind, but in order to find them we must also appeal to the heart, the soul and the spirit."
